Yesterday was my mother-in-love’s birthday, and we celebrated by remembering her life and cherishing our memories of her.
Today marks six years since my dad’s transition to heaven. My brother and I exchanged text messages, tears and photos of our dad.
Though we rest in the knowledge that our loved ones are with Jesus, the void of their presence can sometimes feel overwhelming.
I bring this up today because it reminds me how valuable parents are in a person’s life.
One day, I know my own living children will remember me. Yet, I’m also struck by the painful reality that I took away the gift of remembering parents from the two children I chose not to let live.
One of the lies I believed before making those irreversible decisions back in the 80s was that “they’re better off without me.”
What an absolute lie.
They weren’t better off without me, and the child you may be carrying won’t be better off without you either.
